This meeting was held on Monday 17th August 2026 at the Salvation Army Hall, 4 Normanby St Newtown.

The discussion  was centred around the provision of social housing. These are brief notes, see the full minutes below for more details.
Guest Speakers:
Salvation Army – Christina Tyson, National Manager Frontline Welfare, represented the SA Housing team as Cpt Andrew Wilson was out of town.
She talked about the new housing currently under construction at 182a-194 Owen Street. There will be 25 new 1-3 bedroom units and a community facility. Tenants are expected to move in July 2027; they will be people on the housing register. There is a strong community focus with a full time housing support manager and officers on site

Dwell Housing – Ingrid Downey, Project Manager and Gazelle Moinfar, Aoraki Construction Project Manager.
Hanson St development
Dwell Housing has partnered with Aoraki Construction, who are building a four story building with 12 apartments at 25 Hanson St, Mt Cook: 3x3bdrm & 9x2bdrm units. Completion expected March/ April 2027.
Aoraki owns the land, leased to Dwell for 25 years. After the lease expires it’s returned back to Aoraki, but funds permitting, Dwell hopes to then purchase the building from Aoraki.
Gordon Place development
Dwell Housing purchased and owns 17 Gordon Place. They have plans for development but funding has  been declined three times. They are prepared to listen to any suggestions for use of this land while they wait for the next funding round.

Council Update from Cr Laurie Foon  

• The sudden death of Cr Tony Randle a week ago has had an effect on all areas of Council, he will be missed. Acknowledgement from the Association, our condolences to Cr Randle’s family, councillors and council staff.
• An update on amalgamation  proposals
• Arlington Apartments: Kainga Ora are proposing development, but not as much as is needed. In 2019 there were plans for 300 homes, recently reduced to 104. The Council has agreed to consult with the community before confirming acceptance of this process. https://www.letstalk.wellington.govt.nz/arlington-housing-site-proposal. Submissions are due by 31st August.
• Acknowledgement of the demolition of the derelict house at 285 Mansfield Street – an issue under discussion for several months.
