Constable Street to Get End-to-end Reseal
27.08.10
The entire length of Constable Street in Newtown is due to be resurfaced, and work is expected to start in the second week of September. Contractors will also work on the footpaths, where needed.
Footpath repairs will take place between Riddiford Street and Alexandra Road from Monday 6 until Monday 20 September. This work will take place during the day, but only after rush hour is over in the mornings, and work will finish at 4.00pm each day. It’s expected that this work will have little effect on traffic flow.
After that, the same stretch of road will be resurfaced at night from Sunday 3 until Saturday 16 October. Work will take place between 7.00pm and 6.00am every night. It’s likely there will be traffic diversions in place during this time.
The Council’s Infrastructure Director, Stavros Michael, says the resurfacing work follows major works on Constable Street in the past couple of years. “We’ve done big drainage and water main upgrades and installed two new sets of traffic lights – the road has taken a beating. “It’s now time to give this very busy stretch of road a smooth new surface.”
Work is expected to be finished by the end of October.
