Notes from the July 2026 Meeting

This meeting was held on Monday July 20th, 7.30pm at the Salvation Army Hall, 4 Normanby St.

Mayor Andrew Little attended the meeting, to discuss the Wellington City Council’s approach to Council amalgamation. He outlined the Government requirements and the discussions that are going on within WCC and with the Mayors of the other Wellington Region Councils.

He then answered questions – mostly about amalgamation, but also other local issues . See the meeting minutes below for details.

Other business discussed included –

Open Day at Newtown School Hall Saturday 25 July introducing the Community Emergency Hub. Newtown Residents’ Association will be one of several community groups represented.

Carrara Park Sausage Sizzle Saturday August 1st 1-3pm, celebrating the new toilets. Rain day Sunday 2nd August.

Meet the Candidates Meeting, Wellington Bays Electorate – Tuesday 13th October, 7-9pm at the Salvation Army Hall.

Wellington Heritage Festival – During August / September Rhona will be seeking people who have ideas to contribute to Newtown History resources.

An update of the continuing work on community and street safety.
